Pablo Meneu

Director, performer, rigger.

Pablo Meneu is an artist, director, creator, and rigger specializing in contemporary circus. He trained at the National Centre for Circus Arts (NCCA) in London, specializing in aerial straps, and furthered his training in dance and physical theatre with the Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company.

He developed much of his professional career in the United Kingdom and later in Spain, working as an artist, creator, director, and rigger for various companies and projects. As a performer, he has collaborated with companies and creators such as NoFit State Circus, SHUNT, Vaughan Pilikian, Firenza Guidi, and the Lucas Escobedo Company, among others.

During his time in London, he was co-artistic director of Circumference, a contemporary circus company with which he developed various creative projects, including Shelter Me and Staged. The latter was created and co-directed by Pablo Meneu, who also designed its stage structure, and received the Total Theatre Award for Circus at the 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

In 2020, he co-founded CREAT – Training and Creation in Circus Arts in Valencia, a center dedicated to professional training, research, and creation in contemporary circus, where he currently serves as general coordinator. CREAT is part of FEDEC – European Federation of Professional Circus Schools, the leading European network of professional circus training centers.

In 2019, she co-founded the Valencian company DelsAltres with Eleonora Gronchi. DelsAltres is dedicated to creating multidisciplinary shows primarily for adult audiences, combining contemporary circus, physical theatre, movement, and stage experimentation. Within the company, she has participated in the creation of Barbaritats, Bürstner's Club, Llum, and Verde casi negro. She has co-directed Barbaritats, Bürstner's Club, and Verde casi negro with Eleonora Gronchi, and also contributed to the conception and rigging design of Llum.

Bürstner's Club received the Best Circus Show Award at the Valencian Performing Arts Awards 2022 and was subsequently a finalist for Best Circus Show at the Talía Awards of the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts.

In 2023, Pablo Meneu and Eleonora Gronchi took over the authorship and direction of Verde casi negro (Verde casi negro), a contemporary circus production by the Institut Valencià de Cultura (Valencian Institute of Culture), in which Meneu also participated in the design and execution of the rigging. The show received eight nominations at the 2024 IVC Awards for Valencian Performing Arts, becoming the production with the most nominations that year, and won three awards: Best Musical Composition, Best Lighting Design, and Best Female Circus Performer.
